FRASER RACING LEGACY LIVES ON

SHUBENACADIE, NS (26 April 2004) - Plans have been announced for the Scott Fraser Racing Memorial Fund. Scott's dad, well known retired racer Frank Fraser, will field a racecar for young up and coming racer Shawn Turple in two races later this year. Scott Fraser a four time stock car racing champion, was the victim of a fatal snowmobile accident on March 20. He was 33.

Helping other racers was something Scott Fraser and his team were known for, having won Most Helpful Crew Awards on several occasions, as selected by their peers.

The super late model racecar Turple will drive is the same one Scott raced in 2003 and was preparing for this season at the time of his death.

Turple (Enfield) is the 2003 Sportsman division rookie of the year and 1999 Hobby Stock champion at Scotia Speedworld (Halifax). He is a driver Scott Fraser saw a lot of talent in and had been keeping his eye on - so much so that he had been considering offering Turple a ride in a pro stock racecar himself.

Turple, 25, is understandably touched by the offer to drive Scott Fraser's racecar and to be coached by Scott Fraser's crew.

"To be asked to do this is a huge honour," said Turple. "I'm overwhelmed, nervous, humbled and excited all at the same time."

Members of Scott Fraser's longtime race team including Scott's brother Frank Jr., a sportsman racer himself, are assisting Frank Fraser in this effort to help Turple in his racing career.

"It was a team decision," said Frank Fraser. "We talked to all of the guys to make sure everyone was in favour of this before we talked to Shawn. Bottom line is we all know this is something Scott would want us to do."

Race dates have not been decided.

"We've got a lot of work ahead of us to get the car ready, then we need to get Shawn out for some practice - then we'll see what our options are," said Frank Fraser.

The Fund will be administered by a committee comprised of Frank Fraser, Dan MacLeod and Jim Hall. MacLeod and Hall were both friends and supporters of Scott Fraser.

Donations to the Scott Fraser Racing Memorial Fund can be made at any branch of the Royal Bank of Canada or by mail to P.O. Box 105, Shubenacadie, NS, B0P 1L0. Fund raising activities are also planned. Details will be announced when available.
