TRIBUTE PLANNED FOR MAY 29
HALIFAX, NS (2004 March 31) - May 29 will be the opening day for the 2004 race season at Scotia Speedworld. The event will be A Tribute To Scott Fraser, Presented By Atlantic Cat. Fraser, 33, a four time stock car racing champion from Shubenacadie, was the victim of a fatal snowmobile accident on 20 March. Atlantic Cat was Fraser's racecar sponsor for many years on the local pro stock circuit.
In keeping with the wishes of Scott's family, the tribute will be a celebration of Scott's life and accomplishments. His family and close friends will participate in the planning of the tribute.
"Scott had a huge affect our sport for most of the last decade," said Basil Gordon, general manager of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour. "Some fans came to see him win, some came to see him lose and some came just to see if he would show. He raised the bar for the racers, too. He was the guy they all wanted to beat.
"When he teamed up with King Freight Lines and Rollie MacDonald in the late 90s, and they took the ASA by storm in 2000 and 2001, Scott carried the dreams of race fans and racers all across Canada with him."
The Fraser/MacDonald team raced full-time in the No. 0 King Freight Lines entry on the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour in 2003, scoring two wins in 11 events. Besides the CARQUEST Tour wins, they also had three other victories last year: Two were scored at New Brunswick International Speedway (PASS 150 and Open 250); Fraser's last win came at his home track, Scotia Speedworld, in September.
After several inquiries by competitors, a racer tribute to Scott Fraser has also been announced. As requested by his family, racers wishing to pay tribute to Scott's memory this year are asked to carry a simple small "00" decal on their racecar. Track and series promoters have been notified of the procedure to request the decals. Racers should contact their promoter or email racerdecal@scottfraseronline for more information.
Event number 2 of 11 on the 2004 CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour will be featured on the May 29 show at Scotia Speedworld. The Nova Automotive Hobby Stock and C&R Auto Supply Sportsman will make their season debut as well.
