TURPLE TO RUN FRASER CAR IN 05
SHUBENACADIE, NS (2005 March 22) - Shawn Turple will pilot the SFR pro stock/late model racecar for the
entire 2005 race season in the Maritimes. Turple (Enfield) will drive the car for Frank Fraser and the team will
be a joint effort between the late Scott Fraser's team members and Turple's sportsman team members. The racecar
is the same one Turple ran for Frank Fraser last year in limited events, and was being prepared by Scott Fraser
for himself at the time of his death last March.
"This is something we need to do," said Frank, Scott's dad. "It's the way Scott would have
wanted it. A lot of people helped him along the way, so we're in turn helping another young driver (Shawn).
We ran the car some with Shawn in it at the end of last year and he did good, so we're going to see
if we can help get his pro stock racing career off the ground this year."
Fraser added that he'd like to continue to run SFR instead of a number on the racecar,
but that decision will be made ultimately by officials at the events entered.
The SFR race team will dedicate the 2005 season to the memory of Scott Fraser and also to Chris Sullivan,
owner-operator of Motor Mart, a great friend and supporter of Scott Fraser who passed away October 25 of last year.
The SFR team plan to compete full-time on the 2005 CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour
schedule and will do additional events, as their Tour schedule and budget permit. Season
goals include clinching the CARQUEST Tour Rookie of the Year title, finishing top 10
in final point standings and winning as many races as possible.
Sponsors that have confirmed participation to-date for 05 include: Ledwidge
Lumber, Nelson & Sons, Motor Mart, Harold Newell Trucking and Pennzoil. Additional sponsors are
expected to be announced soon and sponsorship opportunities remain. Please
call 902-758-2069 for team marketing information.
Turple made four starts in the SFR car in 04, scoring three top 10 finishes. Besides
his pro stock efforts he ran his sportsman racecar full-time in 04 and clinched two championships:
the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman title at Scotia Speedworld (Halifax) and the Dominion Auto Auctions
Sportsman Super Series title, with races at Scotia Speedworld and Riverside Speedway (James River).
Turple's accolades at just 26 years of age are many and can be found in their
entirety on his web site: www.ShawnTurple.com. Turple was identified by Scott Fraser
in 2003 as the young driver in the Maritimes who, in his opinion, had the most talent.
The 2005 CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour season opener and season debut for Shawn
Turple in the Fraser car is May 22 at Scotia Speedworld.
