BROKEN AXLE ENDS FRASER'S SEASON

CLERMONT, Ind. - Scott Fraser's Rookie season on the 2001 American Speed Association (ASA) came to an end on lap 91 of Saturday's tirerack.com 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park when the rear axle broke in two on his No. 00 Fans of Fraser Chevrolet.

Fraser was running 16th at the time after two great pit stops had him positioned for a potentially good finish.

Wisconsin's Johnny Sauter won the race and clinched the series national championship.

FRASER GOES 12TH AT IRP
CLERMONT, Ind. - Scott Fraser will start the No. 00 Fans of Fraser Chevrolet form the 12th spot on the grid for Saturday nights American Speed Association (ASA) tirerack.com 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Fraser, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, says the car is good for the race.
"We probably had a top five car for qualifying but the car broke loose in turn four during the second lap of time trials and we lost a couple of tenths," said Fraser. "We were going for it and just got into the gas a bit too soon."
Fraser's car was sideways all the way through the middle and exit of the corner but the driver managed to keep control - providing a thrill for onlookers.
Michigan's Mike Eddy set fast time and will start the race from the pole position with a time just a little better than three-tenths of a second quicker than Fraser's.
The tirerack.com 200 is the season finale for the ASA and will be telecast live on TNN at 7 p.m. Central time (8 Eastern/ 9 Atlantic).

FRASER LOOKING FORWARD TO INDIANAPOLIS RACE
CLERMONT, Ind. - Scott Fraser is eager to return to work behind the wheel of the No. 00 Fans of Fraser Chevrolet this Saturday night in the American Speed Association (ASA) tirerack.com 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP).
After postponing the second race for the car sponsored by his fans from Winchester to IRP due to logistical circumstances caused by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Fraser used the time "off" to fine tune the car, spending two days testing at IRP.
"We realize we've got a lot on the line this week," said Fraser of the ASA season finale. "We had hoped for a great season and everything was pointing that way until we had the worst run of bad luck that Rollie MacDonald (the team owner) or I have ever seen. We know we can run up front and hope to show that this weekend."
Fraser, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, posted three top-fives in the first four races of the year and led Rookie of the Year standings. The next six races saw either mechanical failure or getting caught up in other driver's crashes. Then it appeared as if that bad luck had finally changed on July 8 at Chicago. Fraser led numerous laps, but late in the race a car he was about to pass spilled oil on the track causing him to spin and crash into the wall and destroy the car.
The team sat out the next six events as they returned to Nova Scotia and built a new car. Fraser's Fan Club organized a sponsor program which saw his fans contribute almost $40,000 to sponsor two events - resulting in the Fans of Fraser scheme on the car.
"This car is good and we found some things testing that should help us," said Fraser. "We owe it to ourselves and our fans to give the car a great run."
IRP is a 0.686-mile oval banked seven degrees in the corners. Practice and qualifying are set for Friday with the tirerack.com 200 telecast live on TNN Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT.
