FRASER QUALIFIES FIFTH AT LAKELAND
LAKELAND, FLA - Scott Fraser was the fifth-fastest car in qualifying time trials for the American Speed Association Florida 200, set for Saturday night at 9 p.m. EST at USA International Speedway in Lakeland.
"We've got a good car," said Fraser, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. "We had an early draw for the time trials and the track cooled down later. I am happy with where we're starting."
Fraser was fast all day in practice sessions. Practice 1 showed him eighth quick, Practice 2 fifth quick and Practice 3 showed fourth overall. 47 cars were attemtping to make the 36-car starting grid.
Butch Miller from Michigan was the fast car and will start from the number one spot.
Fraser's qualifying run will place his No. 00 King Freight Lines Chevrolet fifth on the starting grid for the Florida 200, to be telecast live on TNN at 9 p.m. EST.
ANOTHER TOP FIVE FOR FRASER
LAKELAND, Fla. (March 24) - Scott Fraser scored his second top five finish in the American Speed Association's (ASA) young 2001 season with a fifth-place in the Florida 200 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland on Saturday night. By virtue of being the only rookie of 15 in the field to finish on the lead lap, he will move into the ASA Rookie of the Year point standing lead.
"We were real tight the whole race," said Fraser, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. "We tried adjusting the panhard bar in our pit stop but it didn't make much difference."
Fraser's No. 00 King Freight Lines/ King Racing Chevrolet started the race in the fifth spot and never ran lower than seventh in the 36-car field. His strong run earned him three of 10 post-race contingency program awards: Penske Shocks, VP/ Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Race and top rookie for the ATI Performace Products Award.
Mike Garvey, from Minnesota, was the winner of the event, followed by Butch Miller, Coopersville Michigan, Toby Porter, Greenville, South Carolina and Joey Clanton, Stockbridge, Georgia.
