FRASER GOES 17TH ON STARTING GRID FOR ACTIONLINE 300
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Scott Fraser will start Sunday afternoon's Actionline 300 from the 17th spot. The 1/2-mile Montgomery Motor Speedway in Central Alabama is hosting the sixth event of 20 on the 2001 American Speed Association (ASA) schedule.
Fraser, Shubenacadie, N.S., fought loose conditions on the No. 00 King Freight Lines Chevrolet through two of the three practice sessions and the crew worked to fix a motor problem in the other. Fraser feels he will have a good car for the race.
"It's the type of thing where we got behind today with the motor thing, then got it fixed and the car was loose," said Fraser. "By the time we got it comfortable we were out of practice time. We went with a safe setup for qualifying but are going to change a couple of things for tomorrow."
Today's temperatures in the high 80s are expected to be exceeded Sunday, and though he's not used to racing in such conditions, Fraser isn't expecting the heat to bother him.
"We drink lot's of fluids the night before and the day of the race," said Fraser. "It didn't bother me today, so I'm sure I'll be fine. Not only that, but once I get in the car and start the race, the only thing I think about is getting to the front."
Gary Edwards, Poquoson, Va., earned the pole position with a fast lap of 19.883 seconds around the track. Gary St. Amant, Butch Miller, Scott Hanson and Tim Taylor will round out the top five starting spots.
Fraser is ninth in national ASA point standings and second in the rookie race, trailing Chris Wimmer in that battle by just one point.
The Actionline 300 will be telecast live on TNN at 1 p.m. EDT.
