FRASER CAR DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR AT CHICAGO
SHUBENACADIE, Nova Scotia (July 11) - Scott Fraser's No. 00 King Freight Lines Chevrolet was damaged beyond repair at Chicago Motor Speedway last Sunday. Fraser and the King Racing crew will need to sit out the next few American Speed Association (ASA) races while they build a new race car.
"We spent the last two days at the chassis shop," said Fraser. "We discovered both the front and rear clips were damaged so we ended up getting a new frame. Now we need to start at square one. We figure that it will take three to four weeks before we're ready to go again."
Fraser had led 50 laps of the 200-lap event at Chicago when his car skidded out of control after hitting oil on the track surface. The car spun around backwards and hit the cement wall on the driver's side, first with the rear end, then the side, then the front end. Fraser was just one of several drivers that lost control on the slick surface.
"Right now, the plan is that we'll get back to ASA racing sometime in August," said Fraser. "We're disappointed but we knew this was a danger with only one car. This will give us a chance to regroup. We'll also use the time to see if we can find a sponsor to put on the car for the end of the season."
The 2001 ASA season started out well for Fraser as he scored three top fives in the first four races. Unfortunately, the last several weeks have seen the team bitten repeatedly by bad luck.
