FRASER'S FAMOUS FLEXIBILITY FACES TEST AT SOUTH BOSTON
     SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – Scott Fraser, points leader in the race for Rookie of the Year in the American Speed Association (ASA), finds himself in a familiar situation this weekend: He has never even seen the four-tenths-mile South Boston Speedway, site of the Textilease Medique 300 on Saturday night.
     But Fraser, 30, of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, is widely known for his ability to quickly adapt to new tracks, and South Boston should be no exception.
     "We've talked to a lot of people about South Boston and we have some ideas on things to try in our initial setup," said Fraser. "However, the real test will come after we've put a few laps on the car during Friday's practice.
     "We try not to go anywhere with preconceived notions, but going to a track with a lot of history is always a neat experience. I know that (NASCAR Winston Cup Series drivers) Jeff Burton and Ward Burton practically cut their teeth on this track. I just hope something they learned rubs off on me."
     After three races, Fraser leads Chris Wimmer by 21 points in the rookie battle and is ninth in the overall ASA championship point standings, only 18 out of fifth. He has two top-five finishes but dropped out after a wreck in the season opener at St. Augustine, Fla., where he finished 29th.
     "We've been looking at the overall point standings and we figure that if we continue to run as well as we can, then the rookie points situation will take care of itself," Fraser said. "We regret not going back out at St. Augustine after we wrecked because it appears we would now be sixth in points, not ninth. But we can't turn back the clock. We'll just keep trying to have consistent runs and chip away at the points."
     Saturday's race will start at 9 p.m., televised live on TNN.
