LATE RACE PIT STOP GARNERS THIRD STRAIGHT TOP FIVE FOR FRASER (4/7/01)
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - A fifth-place finish in the Textilease Medique 300 at South Boston Speedway was the third consecutive top five finish for Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia's Scott Fraser. Starting eighth, he never fell out of the top 10 runners in the 32-car field.
With only 35 laps remaining, Fraser's No. 00 King Freight Lines/ King Racing Chevrolet was running eighth when Fraser and crew decided to take advantage of a late race caution to put new tires on the right side of the car.
"We figured that might give us an edge to gain a few spots," said Fraser, one of only two cars who gambled on the late stop. "It was what we needed."
Fraser, from Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, said the car was tight the entire race and it was tough to pass.
Fraser's fifth-place was the top finish for any rookie in the field and will extend his lead in the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year race to 66 points over Chris Wimmer.
Polesitter Joey Clanton, Stockbridge, Georgia, led all 300 laps en route to the win. Kevin Cywinski was second, Mike Garvey third, and Gary St. Amant was fourth.      The ASA takes a two-week break, resuming action with event five of 20 on April 28 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

FRASER MOVES TO SEVENTH IN NATIONAL POINT STANDINGS
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Scott Fraser's string of top five finishes in American Speed Association (ASA) competition have moved him to seventh place in national driver point standings. Fraser also strengthens his lead in the series Rookie of the Year race with a 66-point cushion over Chris Wimmer.
Unofficial point standings show Fraser with 599 points, just 88 points behind the leader and three-time series champion, Butch Miller, from Coopersville, Mich. - an overall gain for Fraser of 18 points on first place.
Fraser was in ninth place entering Saturday night's Textilease Medique 300, event four of 20 on the 2001 season.
